TEXT: LUKE 22:41-44, MATT 26:39, MARK 14:36
TOPIC: NOT MY WILL BUT YOURS
Introduction
That someone is busy even in the house of God (the church)
does not mean such is doing God’s will, Mary was busy trying to entertain same
Jesus who told her clearly that Martha (who sat at his feet all along) has
chosen the better part/path Luke 10:42.Matt 7:23 says and then will I profess
unto them I never knew you, depart from me ye that work iniquity. The earlier
verse shows their activity which didn’t translate into productivity of reigning
with Him, May we never be victims of such proclamations in Jesus mighty name.
Details about the
topic
·
It was an excerpt from Jesus’ prayer on Gethsemane.(JESUS
SAID IT)
·
Jesus saw ahead of Him great torment, sufferings
which will climax in a shameful and painful death hence the prayer.
·
Jesus said this because while on earth He had a
superior configuration ,He was 100% God and 100% Man.(this is one of the
mystery in the kingdom ,talking God and Man in Man).the following are some of
the very many reasons we call comfortably view the 100% man side of Jesus:
-
He was hungry
Mark 11:12
-
He was angry Matt 21:12
-
He was in the womb
-
He had siblings Matt 12:46 ff
-
He had feelings and cried John 11:35
Implications of the topic
(1)
Prayers
that will be answered and profitable to the person praying, wouldn’t be against
God’s will or the processes He will take man through. At best it will only be
geared towards or receive answers that will strengthen the individual offering
the prayer. Like in Jesus’s case an angel came and strengthened Him. Luke 22 v
43 the prayer didn’t change or reduce the sufferings.
(2)
It teaches: how to, the zeal with which to and
when to pray. Jesus separated Himself to pray, away from the noises, busyness
of the environment. He prayed so earnestly that the sweat from his body was
like blood gushing v 44. When Jesus was confronted with a great task he prayed
a lesson for us.
(3)
It was a prayer of surrender
(4)
It was the prayer that preceded the sufferings (WHAT
WE CALL PASSION WEEK), the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
(5)
It teaches that our confusion should lead us to
God in prayer.
Conclusion
Do you know God? Do you know His
will for your life, family and Ministry? Can we say like Jesus today that not
my will BUT YOURS...
SHALOM.
