TOPIC: MY STRUGGLE HAS ENDED 2

TEXT: 2 SAM 9:1-13

TOPIC: MY STRUGGLE HAS ENDED 2

Why Christian struggle

These among other reasons are why Christians struggle/suffer:

Ø   For Gods glory:  John 9:3 says Jesus answered neither hath this man sinned nor his parents but that the works of God should be made manifest.
This man had been blind since birth and had not been able to do anything by himself and the all-knowing God said this is for the glory of God, we can go through unpalatable things because of the glory of God. Mephiboseth was going through a whole lot which negates his royalty status but the end of the story awesomely brings glory to God as unveiled in our text.

Ø  To mature us: we learn more from: failure than success, sickness than from good health, and times of scarcity than plenty. (Maturity is not learnt in school but by experience(s) and encounters. Gbenga Aluko) We grow through what we go through anonymous. Romans 5:3-4 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance produces character, and character produces hope. James 1:2-3 says count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

Ø  Our ignorance/slackness/Sin: God did not package or create us (man) for struggle but sin did but thank God for Jesus. Romans 5:12 says wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned.
Ignorance is one of the most dangerous and neglected weapon of the devil against us in this generation Hosea 4:6a my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.
Luke 18:38-40 tells of a blind man who was blind but got the information that Jesus is passing cried with a loud voice even after being cautioned he cried the more and got his sight via his doggedness and resilience he caught the mercy, there is a dimension of being alert, determined and decided backed up with concrete steps required to stem some struggling.
Sin is a source of most struggles in life

Ø  To make us seek God: it is natural that when a child comes in contact with something beyond him/her, he/she naturally comes to the father/mother/guardian, the children of Israel would always remember God in their different travails and struggle. Exodus 3:7 says And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmaster for I know their sorrows.  .At times God permits struggle to get our attention or get us to focus and seek him.

Ø  It’s a requirement for success: “The way up is down” there is usually a period of struggle preceding real, godly and lasting success. Success isn’t picked on the floor it is worked for and worked out and the period for work may be termed as a period of struggle. Even Jesus while on earth did not break this principle, Phil 2:8-9 says and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.9.Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name.

MY STRUGGLE HAS ENDED 1

TEXT: 2 SAM 9:1-13
TOPIC: MY STRUGGLE HAS ENDED 1

The lesson is broken into five sections viz:

Background to the study
Meanings
Forewords
Why Christian struggle
My struggle has ended how?

Background

Jonathan loved David as himself this led to the bonding of their souls (this can be best described as God at work because it would not have been possible for David to survive in the palace without this bonding) 1 Sam 18:1 says and it came to pass when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul that the Saul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. This led to a covenant stated at least two times 1 Sam 20:16-17 & 1 Sam 18:1.

God reminded David of this and he yielded and was used of God to bring Mephiboseth and his lineage out of struggle. May God send men to us and send us to men to end all struggles in Jesus Mighty name.

Henry’s commentary of the bible divided this chapter (our text) into three namely:

Verses 1-4 inquiry
Verses 5-8 reception
Verses 9-13 provision.

Foreword

·         All being has a struggle of one form or the other
·         Not all struggle are from God or godly.

Meanings
Struggle according to oxford advanced learners dictionary eight edition (international students’ version) verb means the following (a) to fight against somebody/something (b) to try very hard to do something.

TEXT: MAL 1:6-13, 2 CHR 5:13(FULL)

TEXT: MAL 1:6-13, 2 CHR 5:13(FULL)
TOPIC: OFFERING ACCEPTABLE PRAISE

The message will be discussed under the following subheadings:

1. Background.
2. Forewords
3. Definition of terms
4. Characters/qualities/features of acceptable praise.

Background

The text reveals God speaking through prophet Malachi to the people of Judah around 450 BC after their return from exile.

The book is firstly to reiterate Gods unfailing love which wasn’t appreciated, bring the people (priest (majorly) and non-priest) to the point where they abandon their sins and evil.

The book has a whole lot against the first recipients and by extension to everyone particularly as regards the quality of offerings to God viz:

Offering:

Polluted offering                                                          vs 7
Blind offerings                                                             vs 8
Lame and sick offering                                                 vs 8
Torn offering                                                                 vs 13

The era of animal sacrifices ended with God offering His son once for all Eph 5:2c (KJV) which says and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour also Gal 1:4.

There are New Testament offerings however some of which are prayer praises among others. Psalm 50:23 says whoso offereth praise glorifieth me and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.

Foreword

God is worthy of all our praise Rev 4:11 says Thou art worthy o Lord to receive glory and honour and power for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are and were created. That we are alive and have all that we have is enough reason to give real praises to God. James 1:17 says every good and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the father of lights with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

That something is given doesn’t mean it is gladly accepted , Gen 4:3-4 says And in process of time it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel he also bought of the firstling of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord has respect unto Abel and his offering. But unto Cain and his offering he had not respect and Cain was very wroth.  Cain presented an offering and this wasn’t accepted.

Definition of Terms:

Offering can be rephrased as to offer, to offer means to put something forward, to give something to someone.
Acceptable praise is the kind of praise that God accepts, that meets the standard of God.

Qualities of acceptable praise:

Praise by the redeemed: Psalm 22:3 says but thou art holy o thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Praises by the sincerely redeemed commands the attention of the redeemer, God dwells and accepts praises of his people, it is sweet smelling savour unto him. Praise by the redeemed calls the presence of God Himself not any of His emissaries, little wonder signs and wonders are a common place when praise is done by the redeemed.
Praise in the spirit: John 4:24 God is spirit and they that must worship must worship in spirit and in truth for the father seeketh such to worship Him. The connecting channel to God is through His spirit.
Praise that is God centered: praises shouldn’t be focused on our new clothes, shoes, vocals sagacity, Crips sound or ambience (this are very good, it however has a negative correlation to God’s acceptance of our praise), not even focused on what he should do, he hasn’t done but focused on God for who he is.Ex 15:11 who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like thee glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Praises not done in hypocrisy: it is hyprocritic when we only praise God as directed/instructed or if the only time you do it is in church and probably on Sundays.it in a way shows that there is a distance between you and God Matt 15:8 says this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth and honoureth me with their lips but their heart is far from.it also hypocrisy when the only time a Christian or any preacher takes his/her bible is towards a ministration.

Praise that is done with our life style: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service. The renowned worship leader Don Moen sang a song way back then that praise looks good on you not only from you. Our lives should give praise to God, we will spend less time energy and resources on evangelism if our lives sings His praise.
