I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I WILL HAVE MERCY ON

EXODUS 33:1-20
I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I WILL HAVE MERCY ON

The topic will be studied under the following sub-headings:

Introduction
Gospel from Exodus 33:1-19
Mercy on whom I will have mercy on
Conclusion

Introduction

Exodus 32 provides the context for the chosen text, it is also a historic point in the journey of the Israelite to Canaan, in spite of the unrivaled benevolence of God towards them most especially in the recent time they made a golden calf and exclaimed that it brought them out of Egypt Ex 32:4 says And he received them at their hand and fashioned it with a grooving tool, after he had made it a molten calf and they said, these be thy gods, o Israel which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
They however had the following as the consequences of this action:

ü  They drank the debris of the calf  Ex 32 vs 20
ü  Lost three thousand men vs 28
ü  Were further plagued by God vs 34& 35

All this happened even with Moses’ unusual/selfless and remarkable intercession Ex 32:32 says yet now if thou wilt forgive their sin and if not blot me I pray thee out of thy book which thou has written. God heard but they still reaped what was sown a great lesson for us. Gal 6:7, Ecss 8:13, Is 3:11& Prov11:21.

Gospel from Exodus 33 1-19

ü  God keeps His promises  Gen 12:7-33:1,(Is 7:14-Matt 1:18-2:1 )
ü  He had/always has a plan vs 2 an angel will go before thee (John 3:16)
ü  He has a destination vs 3a (Canaan) …..(John 14:3).
ü  Our attitude can be our undoing 3b (Matt 25:35-41)
ü  Our father is a great restorer no matter how far we have gone  vs 4,5 & 6 if we :
(a) Repent
(b)Turn away
(c) Seek His face
(d)   Separate ourselves.

Mercy on whom I will have mercy on

ü  It shows God is a merciful God: you can’t dispense what wasn’t stored earlier, can’t give what you don’t have. PS 89:14, Ps 145:8-9.
ü  It is the first divine answer to a prayer: show me thy way vs 13.
ü  It emphasizes the supremacy of God in the dispensing of His mercy.

Conclusion

Mercy can settle any case, can open any door, and can change any situation. In the mighty name of Jesus our lives, family, work and ministry will not lack the mercy of God.

 SHALOM.
