TEXT:
JOHN 14:1-3
TOPIC:
LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED. (FULL TEXT)
Background
The referenced text is a continuation of
discussion which started earlier and continued after the supper after which the
devil entered Judas and moved him to betray Jesus John 13:27, then the feet
washing ,it was more of a farewell speech.
The disciples were called by the master
Jesus Matt 3-4, Mark 1:16 ff (today, there are basically two important calls
that all who are heaven bound has to answer to first is the call to salvation,
the transformation from the kingdom of darkness into that of His dear son
(light) Col 1:13 the call to salvation are you saved by the precious blood of
the lamb? Secondly the call into the ministry of reconciliation 2Cor 5:18
(reconciling men to men and men to God, hence any so called member of the body
whose presence and practice brings more division than absence has a major issue
with his /her salvation, ideology/theology).
They (the disciples) had grown dependent
upon the physical, visible presence of Jesus, when they were in any emergency
or difficulty, they turned to Him Mark 4:38, when they were in doubt as to how
to pray they turned to Him Luke 11:1-13, He was their Leader, Teacher, Mentor,
Prophet, Miracle worker, Pastor and Lord.
They were however shocked destabilized and
disillusioned at the pronouncement of His departure for the following among
other reasons:
·
They did not have the full grasp as at
then on why He came and the connection to the going. John 10:11 says I am the good shepherd and the good
shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
·
The so short duration of His (Jesus’s)
ministry, probably when they started enjoying Him and His booties.
·
His manner of departure, being betrayed,
molested and killed by humans after all the miracles they saw. They did
suggested that they call down fire at some point Luke 9:54
·
They did not fully believe His teachings,
sayings and capacity especially as it concerns resurrection. John 2:19
·
They did not want Him to go because they
thought He was going to rule the physical world at that time hence their jostle
for positions. Act 1:6,Matt 20:21
CAUSES OF FEAR

Ø Sin and Satan Gen 3:10,Prov 28:1
Ø When
in contact with the divine Luke 1:12,2:9
Ø Bad
experiences of the Past. Gen 33:2,Gen 27:41 ff
Ø Natural/canal
nature/fear of the unknown. Job3:25
