I AM THAT I AM

                                      TEXT: EX 3:1 -15
INTRODUCTION:

People who know God’s name stand in a better position to trust Him little wonder the scriptures says in Psalm 9:10a and they that know thy name will put their trust in thee. We can’t get to the father if he doesn’t draw us to himself John 6:44 in the same vein, we can’t really know God except he reveals himself to us, our knowledge of God is dictated by how close we move to Him and how much grace of self revelation of Him we enjoy.  Eph 1:17-19.

Meaning of the name: In Hebrew the referenced name is EHYEH-ASHER-EHYEH, although the then Hebrew language expresses in perfect and imperfect tense as against the past, present and future tenses obtainable now, this widened the meaning of the Hebrew translation as referenced. It thus could mean: I was, I am and I will be which could be repeated, or interchanged and when arranged we have twelve possibilities.

God people before God’s name: God chose Abraham and called him out Gen 12:1, Isaac then gave birth to Jacob then Jacob to Joseph, The latter became the prime minister and a famine arose and the whole Israel moved to Egypt at Joseph’s instance Gen 46:26,Pharaoh welcomed with open hands and gave them best arable part of the Land Goshen Gen 47:6,but there arose a Pharaoh which knew not Joseph and were tormented Ex 1:8,11 & 12.The children of Israel however cried and the lord heard them. Ex 2:23-25.

God heard and came to deliver His children Ex 3:1-12, Moses needed to be sure of two things which all minister of God still grapple with today:

(1)    To be sure God was sending Him, so as to be sure he will have back in troubles.(he had tried it before with his strength and failed, killing an Egyptian in the process and becoming a fugitive)

(2)    What to tell the children of Israel who possibly still have His record of killing an Egyptian, they even contested his reality(adopted prince)Ex 2:14 which says and he said who made thee a prince and judge over us intendest thou to kill me as thou killed the Egyptian? And Moses feared and said surely the thing is known.

The implications of Names:

(a)    Prophetic: The name we bear tells who we become, Matt 1:21 says And she shall bring forth a son and thou shall call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from heir sins. Jesus means saviour. The I will be part of EHYEH-ASHER-EHYEH

(b)   Character: the name that one bear also depicts the character of a person or thing, EHYEH-ASHER-EHYEH depicts the ageless, timeless and eternal nature of God Ex 3:14 & 15.

(c)    Ability: one of the names of God is Elshadai which means God the all powerful one. Eph 3:20 and Dan 4:35.His capacity is beyond the comprehension of the human brain.

(d)   Mystery: God wanted to reveal himself to us in a way that we will understand hence he chose a concept we understand to introduce a phenomenon we will never fully understand Himself. How past is I was, what is the scope of the I am when will he cease to bear I will be?

Conclusion:
EHYEH-ASHER-EHYEH is prophetic, mysterious, shows His immutability nature and character, God was, is and is to come but are you prepared for His second coming. Beware!!!!!!!, may God grace us grace to reign with him.

KNOWING JESUS SERIES 11(OUR ATONEMENT)

God made man for companionship, both with ourselves and with Him Gen 2:18-25, Gen 3:8. Man however fell to sin and lost the relationship with God Gen 2:1-24, the eyes of God are pure, he cannot condone iniquity Hab 1:13 so he created the concept of atonement.

Meaning: The concept of atonement according: to Merriam-webstar.com means reparation for offense or injury, to Theology it is the doctrine concerning the reconciliation of God and humankind, especially as accomplished through the life, suffering, and death of Jesus Christ.

Objects: The concept of atonement as created by God has had a long duration and has had different objects used for it some of which includes the following:

KNOWING JESUS SERIES 10 (OUR INTERCESSOR)

Satan is a consistent accuser of the brethren and this will continue till the planned end of that ministry which has been afore planned by God, Rev 12:10 says And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven now come salvation and strength and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ for the accuser of our brethren is cast down which accused them before God day and night.

This knowledge is very imperative in at least two ways: firstly to make us accept Jesus’ Lordship wholeheartedly and sincerely that Satan does not continue to have genuine stand to accuse us, that is our lives, thoughts, actions , in-actions, purpose and pursuits are disciplined and in tandem with God and His word.

Secondly,  to underscore the need for an intercessor, a role that our saviour does without fail and in love. Romans 8:34 says who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is raised again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. To intercede according to Oxford Advance Learners Dictionary (eight editions) means to speak to somebody in order to persuade them to have pity on somebody else or to help an argument.

A  number of great men in the bible interceded on behalf of God’s people but what our father and saviour does is different widely and supremely different in the following ways and more:

·         He is the son of God. Matt 3:17,17:5, Mark 1:11, Luk 3:22,9:35

·         He understands us perfectly even as God.Heb 4:15, John 11:35

·         He paid the price of Sin Gal 3:13-15, Rm 6:23

·         He speaks besides the father Rm 8:34

·         His intercession is for all Heb 7:25
